I’ll get to the reason for the title in a minute, but first a few other orders of business…
During our layover in Detroit we decided to eat lunch…
Meaning we had to lug our carry-ons back thru the airport. For some reason I thought it would be a bright idea to bring a duffle as a carry- on because it will hold more vs a roll around.
Mark my word… NEVER again will I do this!
It is so heavy and annoying to keep up with. Stacey let it ride on top of her roll around suitcase as we were walking thru the airport.
We got on the down escalator, which was about twice as long/high as the typical ones and a few seconds into the ride my bag went tumbling…
end over end…
ALL.THE.WAY.DOWN.
None of us chased it, because we recognized it as a lost cause
We just giggled the whole way down and I picked it up and went on, thankful no-one was in front of us.
It would have taken someone out!
We arrived in Portland about twenty til 4
Then picked up our baggage, and our sweet ride
First stop…Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth
So pretty and peaceful
The weather here was high 70’s, So it felt excellent outside
We drove around for a bit and then headed up the coast to get part of the way to Bar Harbor.
We stopped in Bath to eat dinner. It was such a cute town!
We ate at this cute little restaurant. I really wanted lobster but decided to wait until tomorrow and try to find a local lobster shack
So tonight I got Clam Chowder
SO good!
Grace anne tried it for the first time and loved it
We hopped back in the car and went up the coast a little more to the town of Waterville
I found a hotel on Priceline that had good reviews. Most said it was “out of date, but clean”
Ladies and gentlemen I present to you
The Budget Host
yeah it looks like something out of a horror film, but for $75. It really isn’t that bad
I mean we are pretty sure Elvis stayed here at one time…If not, they shared a decorator
The only qualification was that the room is clean.
I walked in, threw the covers back, and said…
“sheets are clean,no hair,we are good”
I met the criteria in finding us a room and I’m ok with that. Plus we have gotten some good laughs from it.
Not sure what is on the agenda for tomorrow, but most likely hiking in Acadia National Park,
So I’m off to bed soon to rest up. We are wiped out.
Had a great 1st day and looking forward to tomorrow.
It’s beautiful here!!!!
